Module 1

The goal of this module is focus on formstorming through primitve and complex objects, as well as material exploration. Starting with a collection of photographed items that mimic different shapes and form to replicate in 3D modeling.

Design Challenge 1

Front view of lipstick tube Front view of lipstick tube with cap removed, showing lipstick Bottom view of lipstick tube Side view of sketchbook with pages Front view of sketchbook View of binding Close up view of pages and hardcover Side view of highlighter Front view of highlighter Close up of highlighter cap Front view of soap holder Side view of soap holder open Back view of soap holder Back view of Tiger Balm Side view of Tiger Balm Front view of Tiger Balm Detailed view of jar open with lid Front view of jar closed with lid Top view of jar open with lid on the side Side view of remote control Top view of remote control Detailed view of remote control buttons Front view of Hello Kitty figure Top view of Hello Kitty figure Side view of Hello Kitty figure Tutorial 1-3 Playing with twist and bend tool Tutorial 1-3 Playing with bend tool Tutorial 1-3 Playing with dimension and material tools Tutorial 1-3 Playing with axis control to adjust rotation of form First draft of jar model with lid and base

Design Challenge 2

Using spline tool to trace face of soap holder Extruding spline to create 3D form of soap holder Extruding spline to create 3D form of soap holder with roundness Render of sketchbook =Render of sketchbook from different angle Using cubes to create the base of sketchbook Render of jar with material Extruding spline to create 3D form of jar First draft of jar model with lid and base Using spline tool to trace face of jar Playing with extrude tool Playing with sweep tool to create knot Playing with loft tool Rendering of video game with material Using plane cut tool to make the opening part of the package Adding roundness to the dino model Playing with point settings to adjust the dino model Playing with sweep tool and thickness Adjusting radial tool to make the knots close together, mimicking a braided texture Using radial tool to create knot pattern Skulpting and using polygon settings Pulling points and surfaces outwards from cube Creating a tree model using primitive shapes and adjusting scale and rotation Playing with boolean tool, specifically with the subtract option Playing with symmetry tool to understand how it can be used to create a model more efficiently

Project 1 Models

Published 3D Model 1

Material Study of real life object vs 3D print

Material State: Refined
Material Plasticity: Rigid, rubbery
Material use: Used for a keychain
Feels like plastic and rubbery
Most figurine keychains that feel rubbery are soft polyvinyl chloride They often feel rigid enough to hold shape but have a smooth, matte texture that does not feel like hard plastic.

Material State: Refined
Material Plasticity: Rigid, lightweight
Material use: Holding trinkets and jewelry
Made out of wood and sealed laquer

Material Study of real life object vs 3D print

Material State: Refined
Material Plasticity: Rigid
Material use: Electronic
Outer shell made of ABS plastic (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), known to be lightweight and difficult to break if dropped.
Buttons are molded from silicone rubber.
